I frequently get dizzy and lose my sight for between 10-30 seconds. I lose my hearing as well and everything sounds muted and static. When ever this happens I am unable to talk or move with co-ordination. Is this vertigo?- Just I never have headaches or migraines?
Answer
What you’ve described sounds like a drop in blood pressure and thus reduced oxygen levels. I’ve had that sensation a couple of times during blood-doning sessions. The hearing goes first, usually feeling like the ear has popped and slowly the muffling becomes worse and everything seems to take longer to be heard, the eyes begin to lose focus before your vision becomes spotted, fuzzy and finally shadowed and the dizziness becomes worse during this time.
Vertigo does not usually effect the sight (though the room might seem to swim or sway) and it doesn’t cause hearing loss.
I would honestly advise you to have that checked with a doctor; it’s probably nothing to worry about (for example short-term anemia or even standing too quickly can trigger a drop in blood pressure) but just to be sure it isn’t something more serious.
