What is the difference between dizziness and vertigo?

June 21st, 2011 No comments

What is the difference between vertigo and dizziness? Is there an actual difference or are they synonymous? I often hear of people saying vertigo is when you feel the room spin, so what does dizzy refer to?

Answer
I wanted to say that dizziness is one symptom of vertigo. Vertigo also causes things like nausea and vomiting, maybe fainting,

But just to be sure I looked it up on Wikipedia, and the answer there is that vertigo is a type of dizziness, one cause of dizziness, caused by a feeling of motion when stationary, sometimes caused by a dysfunction in the inner ear.

What kind of specialist treats vertigo?

June 9th, 2011 No comments

I have been experiencing dizziness so my doctor has prescribed Xanax and she believes it may be intractable vertigo. Since Xanax is not meant for long-term use, she is referring me to a specialist to insure I can get the right medication for long-term use. The problem is, she’s referring me to a psychiatrist and in my opinion, most psychiatrists wouldn’t have the faintest idea on how to treat vertigo. I would think a neurologist would be better?

Answer
Hello i have experienced Vertigo for years. There are many causes of this ailment you need to rule out each one.

Inner ear problems/Labyrinthitis
Stress related
Neck problems/vertabrea misaligned
Candidas/food allergies
Etc

Me, i had all these, please dont feel disheartened you will get there with perseverance. I dont suffer with vertigo as bad as i did because now i know how and what to do.

I have changed my diet, i relax as much as i can, i see an osteopath and have regular sessions with him. I also have tried hopi ear candles there also good for dizziness.

I really do feel for you, i hope you find out the cause of your vertigo and start to feel better. You tek care

Tinnitus Ringing Ear Symptoms

May 6th, 2011 No comments

Answer for the following symptoms: Vertigo, Insomnia, slight ear ache and pressure?

I have the following symptoms:
I had vertigo a few days ago with a slight ache and pressure in the ears. It felt as if it were blocked. It’s lessened and I no longer feel severe vertigo (dizziness), but I still have a headache (not a migraine though). To make it worse…I’m fighting off insomnia…I can’t fall asleep and when I do i wake up half an hour later feeling like i was just on the verge of sleep but can’t quite fall into a deep sleep. I went to the doctor, but all he said was…”I’m not sure what you have. You don’t have an ear infection. You don’t seem like you have a virus. It could be BPPV or something else. Let’s wait two weeks and we’ll go from there.” I’ve waited a week and it’s become a pain in the butt. Has anyone felt this before?

Answer
It sounds as if you do have something going on in the ear.  You have the symptoms of labrynthitis.

What kind of illness causes vertigo

January 8th, 2011 No comments

I am 24 and for the last 5 months I have been experiencing occasional episodes where I get extreme vertigo, my head feels like it is being queezed. I can’t concentrate and it is even harder to think of the words I want to say. I also experience episodes when for no reason at all both of my legs will start to hurt very bad, this can last for hours. Any ideas? My doctor already ruled out depression or migrains.

Answer
I would suggest that you visit a doctor as well just to rule out any more serious issue. But here is some information about Vertigo. There is a list of exercises that you might want to try as well at the site that I got this information from. Hope you feel better!

The treatment of vertigo will differ based on what is causing the symptoms. Some cases of vertigo develop when a person has an ear infection. Other times it may begin to occur after a person begins to take a certain medication. Some individuals are stricken with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Each of these causes different vertigo treatments.

If a person develops dizziness when they have an ear infection, antibiotics may be able to clean it up and the vertigo should subside. If the ear infections become chronic, surgery may be necessary.

The proper treatment of vertigo for persons who develop symptoms after taking medication would be to speak with their doctor about either decreasing the dosage and/or change medications completely if the condition is bad enough.

For persons with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Canalith Re-positioning procedure may be the best treatment. This involves a series of body and head movements that move the calcium crystals out of the paroxysmal canal and into a part of the body where it can be re-absorbed.

Can Walking help my vertigo?

January 6th, 2011 No comments

Answer
Vertigo in itself is a symptom, with many different causes
You may be hyperventilating (abnormally rapid, deep breathing or over breathing, due to anxiety.)
But vertigo can be a sign of disease, usually ear disease. A middle ear infection or motion sickness, or even a buildup of earwax are culprits — interfering with balance and causing dizziness.
You may also have benign positional vertigo.
You may be straining your eyes.
The best thing is to find out whats is causing the problem. Go see an internist. Walking will not ease the symptoms, and you may even put yourself in some danger of falling and hurting yourself.
